"What are you rising against?"How many of you guys have heard this question before and what's the story behind it? Because as a fan of this band I have heard this question at least three times, probably more, but the one incident that I always remember is this one time when I wore my RA shirt to school and my biology teacher asked me what I was rising against and it was one of the most awkward conversations of my life. Have you guys had any experiences like that? Cause I feel like most of us have been there

I've heard this several times from family and friends. My canned response is to jokingly say, "I'm rising against the man, man!" It seems to shut up their judgments, so I'm happy with it.

A couple times. Usually I wind up staring at them in a "Do you even need to ask?" way. But then, I've always been a political guy, and the name's always just made sense to me.

Tim once said, that they chose the name, because it sounds strong and they couldn't believe that there wasn't a punkrock band called 'Rise Against' yet. They actually did not want to rise against something specific. Furthermore he said, that they felt like they have to grow into the name, almost earn the name. It meant kind of a goal to them to reach to full meaning of the name And well, I guess they got it

I rise against hate, because nothing good has or ever will come from it.

I chose my username because of this question everyone always asks. "Rise Against?" "Yes" "But rise against what?" Well, at least I once convinced my geography teacher to listen to them after our conversation about what they are rising against.. I simply told him about some of the issues they talk about in their songs.

I like to think about it as rising against everything that is wrong with this fucked up world, everything like bullying, war, animal cruelty, the government, etc.

I rise against hate, because nothing good has or ever will come from it. Reminds me of a line in "to the core" --> Time spent on hate, is time gone to waste

I rise against (or at least I'm trying to all that unfairness of the world, where innocent, good people suffer for no reason and those that commit crime go unpunished. Damn, that sounds like some sort of a superhero speech ^^

I guess RA was no minor reason to wake my interest in social issues. i rise against anything that makes me angry such as unethical treatment of animals, as well as humans. I rise against discrimination of people with other sexuality or origin. Anytime someone around makes a racist remark, I will raise my voice and frighteningly this happens continuous.

Theres also that whole "dont you mean rage against the machine?" Or is that just me? Hahaha, we made a presentation baout our fave songs in English and I could convinced my group to choose Rise Against, and then our teacher came and asked us which artist we chose, and I was like "You definitley don't know them" and our teacher looked at our poster and was like "Oh of course, you mean Rise Against The Machine, right?" and I was like "No. It's just Rise Against. Just Rise Against" I created this picture:
